Covid Second Wave In South Asia: Negligence Became Costly
The second wave of Covid 19 has put India in trouble at this time. The crisis of oxygen, hospital beds and other essential medical supplies are putting a lot of pressure on the authorities. Because the death rate indicates an alarming situation.
According to the Times of India, over 4.14 lakh, fresh infections were reported on Thursday and also 3.927 deaths. The death count has now stayed above 3,000 for 10 days in a row. Maharashtra reported the most fatalities at 853. UP, Delhi and Karnataka reported over 300 deaths each. Kerala and Madhya Pradesh have imposed lockdowns amid a surge in cases. Despite the dire situation, various countries are concerned about the rapidly spreading effect of Covid infection in India and are eager to assist with essential medical commodities.
Arti Ahuja, Additional Secretary in the Union Health Ministry, stated at a press conference that 4,468 oxygen concentrators, 3,417 oxygen cylinders, 13 oxygen-generation plants, 3,921 ventilators/Bi-PAP/C PAP, and over 3 lakh Remdesivir vials, as well as PPE kits and accessories, received as aid from abroad, had been delivered or despatched to various states and union territories as of May 5.
The effect of Covid19 has also been shown around other neighbouring countries. Nepal, the closest and open-range Himalayan country, is experiencing peak-impact corona infection. Pakistan Bangladesh, Srilanka is on high alert for the possible situation. According to sources, 9,023 new cases and 50 new deaths were recorded on May 7 in Nepal. The situation is looking uneasy in the country. Bagmati Provence is mostly affected by the pandemic where 200000 people are infected. The Kathmandu district is the worst affected, with 14000 people infected. Nepal is also seeking help from outside. Nepal is also facing health infrastructure unavailability. Being a problem, India is also helping Nepal, and China is also extending its helping hands.
