Festival And Conservation Of Environment

Hindu culture has been very conscious to conserve the environment since its early epoch. It is necessary to make it intact with the changing of time, which will command us to celebrate our festivals in an Eco-friendly way.

The autumn season is a very joyous season for Hindus because of Durgapuja and Deepavali are two main festivals. Hindu rituals mainly based on agriculture. Autumn is the time of harvesting of paddy also. It is a time of richness and complacency for farmers. They worship mother Sakti a goddess of power in Durgapuja and Deepavali. Durgapuja is the festival of truth and power and Deepavali is the festival of light or knowledge. Many myths are related to these festivals. Gathering of kins, chanting prays and enjoy the various traditional recipes on the occasion is another important part of the festivals.

Hindu texts paid high concerns to the conservation of the environment. We found many contexts thereof devotions to every component of Nature. According to Hindu cannons, Nature is a beautiful creation of their God. That is why Hindu worship animals, birds, plants, water, soil, stones, mountains of the Earth. The human body is a composition of Panchamahavutas. Water, wind, fire, space, and power are collectively called Panchamahavuta.

With the change of time festivals are not limited in the old style especially in the urban area. Temples of Goddess used to crowded with devotees. Despite this, Hindus are often not so careful about the environment at the time of the festivals. We can see mostly crowded markets on the eve of festivals. The wastage of goods like rapers, plastic bags often remains mismanaged. In Deepavali, streets covered with the wastage of firecrackers. Municipal sweepers also live in the festival especially in India, a Hindu populated country of the world and plan area of Nepal. Plastics and paper wastage mismanaged on the roadsides. Temples and worshiping places covered with thick aromatic incense smoke. People looking careless about the bad effect on human health. Rivers and pools also are seen full of the wastage just after the festivals.

We are in very risk of degrading situation of environment, this time. Let's improve our rich tradition of Eco-friendly.
